    Hey guys,

    I want to know what you think is the best form of government. Over the course of history there have been many differing ideoligies and practices, and even today the world is full of many kinds of governments. What do you think about Canada’s political system, constituent representation, proportional representation, etc… What about communism, socialism, capitalism– these ideologies affect how a society chooses to form its government. Post anything you got.

    I think Churchill put it best, ” democracy is the worst form of government, except we’ve tried the rest.” but we have remember that government is only one part of society; business, scholars, not for-profits groups are also important. Each influence government in one way or another. Forms of government and definitions on forms of government change over time. We lionize democracy, yet we forget Hitler, Mussolini, Mugabe, and many others we elected…democracy…yet history remembers them as tyrants whom siezed power illegally. By the definition we use for dictator or tyrant Roosevelt
    , US president during WWII was a dictator. Bhutan, Jordan, and Qatar are examples of monarchs. To the west it is a kin to a dictatorship, yet those countries join Canada and scandanavia on the failed state index and human development index.

    no we have not tried them all.. democracy isnt the best system.. it has so many flaws and allows corruption to run free. the best form of government is indigenous. we all have our own way of governance before western powers forced their way apon the world. the way things were done before was perfect because they were harmonious relationships to land and god. we must return to the relationship and governance systems. instead of using ways that were never created for us. the traditional ways of governance ensured our survival for hundreds of thousands of years.. why change something that isnt broken.

    I would have to agree with the above statements that indeed Democracy is not necessarily the best system. All you need to do is read up on Singapore, or in my case live here for a short while, and you come to learn very quickly how a more authoritarian system (whatever label you want to give it) can indeed be an effective way of providing order to society. Just read up on the Memoirs of Lee Kuan Yew, the visionary who transformed this country from being Third World to First in less than 50 years. It is one of the safest, cleanest and most efficient countries in the world…all of which I doubt would have been soo successful under a different style of leadership- although this a question up for debate.

    to do what is best for everyone is usually the best way to go.. the thing is these days people are into this western way of thinking… and that way of thinking is thinking about themselves. we must get away from that way of thinking and start to think about others.. not just ourselves. the day that we start worrying about others is the day the world is in harmony.. but till that day we will face a tough fight that will cost the world alot of lives…
